Yujun Chen

Yujun Chen was born in Putian, Fujian, China in 1976 and graduated from the Art Academy of China. The main inspiration in his work stems from the culture of the Central Min diaspora, partly due to a branch of his family emigrating to Southeast Asia in the year 1900. In his „Jiang Nan“ series, he uses collage to create a fantasy world populated by the shadows that illustrate a lonely man’s soul. In his 2009 „Asia Geography“ series, he explores the similarities between various Eastern cultures and attempts to produce an alien space of the other, a place both at once strange and familiar.
