Ole Johan Grünbaum

I’m born on the Faroe Islands. I’ve been living in Denmark, Liberia, Greenland, France and Ireland. Now I’m based in Denmark. I’m educated civil engineer, teaching mathematics on a college. Working with oil on canvas is my way of understanding and ordering the complex social and material reality I’m a part of. I work in layers. First the canvas is blank and dead. I fill it up in order to make it live. After some time the growing complexity becomes a mess and my canvas is dead once more. Now I start reducing in order to make it live once more. If I have my way, the work will become alive somewhere in between complete order and complete chaos.
