Megan is a painter, illustrator and collage artist, who has a particular interest in portraiture and the depiction of human flesh. After graduating from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in New Zealand in 2010, she moved to London and since 2013 has been based in Berlin. She enjoys creating visually seductive work which presents the viewer with a number of dichotomous relationships: fine detail/loose expressiveness, finished/unfinished, figurative/abstract, geometric/amorphous. She also enjoys creating an incongruity between her color palette and subject matter, often using soft pastels or child-like primaries to depict oddly disconcerting or even repulsive subject matter. Her interest in the human (and animal) form is a constant source of inspiration for her work. She is also influenced by 1970s and 80s illustration and lifestyle photography which has helped to provide a starting point or mood for many of her works. Both her paintings and collages often contain a subtle element of humor and are imbued with an awareness of the ironic, often very kitsch content and style they are created in.
