John Doing
ItalyJohn Doing
Born at the foot of Vesuvius in 1938, John Doing took up painting as a way to record the experiences he made during his extensive travels in the Far East, while working for his father's pearl company. Fascination with the Japanese culture led him to an extensive study of watercolour technique, and eventually, an exploration of digital collages and computer graphics. His work examines the connection between East and West through his unique interpretation of reality, combining symbolic elements with references to images of Renaissance and oriental art history. He lives and works in Lugano and Berlin.
